Cerro Fitz Roy and Laguna de los Tres near El Chaltén, Argentina. The name El Chaltén means "the smoking mountain" as it was believed to be a volcano by the Tehuelche people, because of the clouds covering it most of the time.
During my last visit in Acadia National Park, I tried to capture the atmosphere of the coast at night. On this moonless night, the crashing waves were barely visible, lit only by the light of the stars. While trying to capture the scenery, only very long exposure showed the Milky Way and the green airglow, but the foreground was so dark that only silhouettes were created. For this auto-portrait, I kept my headlamp ON for the whole exposure (8 minutes), trying to aim a in the same direction without moving too much. Running back to my camera after standing still for the exposure, I was quite happy to find that the diffusion of the light in the misty air gave a 3D feeling to the foreground. The rising Milky Way now had something to balance it's soft light in this image.
Along the Going-to-the-Sun road in Glacier National Park, Montana. Incredibly beautiful mountains all around. Sadly, the glaciers won't be a part of them for very long with climate change...
